Time to Color

We have lived in this house for about a year and a half now, and I am ready for change. I am ready to paint the town, er, bedroom green. It's time for Jay to have the glam-girl room she deserves so I want to splash shades of pink all over her bedroom walls and frill up the place to her liking. The playroom needs to scream "KIDS", not mumble "this is where we stash the toys", so I want that to take on a vibrant, warm yellow-gold where the kids can play, make masterpieces for mommy to treasure and relax in a pile of pillows where Jay can read to Nas.

There are plenty of white walls filling our home, but for now, I hope to focus on Jay's room as she is the oldest child and I have never been able to really do what I want in her room (ever). I also look forward to doing the playroom because it's the first room people see when they visit and where the kids spend a lot of their time. In time, our home will be filled with beautifully warm, inviting colors. The catch?

I'm dreading having the paint mixed for Jay's pink-fab-princess room. I've heard people having to return to the nearest Home Depot time and time again to get the color adjusted. That's not my kind of thing. I want it to be right the first time or I'll get irritated with the whole process. So I visit the store often to figure out which pink we really want to go with...hoping we'll choose correctly, no disappointments. I'm also dreading the project of painting her room...any room really. Will it be easy to apply, look even, will be make a huge mess? I want it to look very nice because it's my ultimate "Jay's Room" dream to have it just so for her. I want the perfect bed, the fluffiest, feet-greeting rug, the cutest comforter set and paint color that pulls the room together. I just don't want to mess it up!

Why am I stressing something like a paint job? I know, aside from the perfectionist in me, that HGTV and the other interior design television shows make me feel like if I don't get it done the way they do...if I don't get the exact feel I want for the rooms I'll be disappointed and what if the paint isn't just what I hoped? It's already on the WALLS!! So I get over myself and I find I'm excited about the entire thing all over again. It's our home and any projects we attempt, whether we succeed or fail, will yield great memories. When you look at it that way, you just can't go wrong!

A noted from G-Mommy
Well - this should be a fun project and not one that will freak you out. We painted our bedroom last week and suprisingly we are still speaking. We were at habitat for humanity the other day looking for misc tiles (I heard you could find some great treasures there). After poking around I stumbled upon some 50 or 60 cans of mis-colored paints. Well they all came from Home Depot returned because they weren't the "right shade of periwinkle" so we picked up 5 gallons of premium paint for the price of 1 gallon of Ralph Lauren. We took it to home Depot and had them shake it and it's a good as new. We added a little white paint to tone the color to one that we didn't mind and just went for it.

This weeking we are going to tackle both girls rooms. They may not be light hot pink Ryan requested but it will be in somewhere in the "pink neighborhood" at least it won't be "rental white" anymore.

Love ya -Me
