While I carried my little soccer kicking daughter inside my womb I was almost positive I would have a bouncing baby boy. So when I saw my chubby, pink, slanted-eyed baby girl I was stricken with the pink frillies.
Unknown was our child's gender until delivery so Babe and I decorated her room in all things Baby Looney Tunes: cute, sweet, gender-neutral. Had I known she'd be a girly-girl would I have hung sheer pink curtains or invested in lacy, soft-rose pink layette? Maybe, but I doubt it. I thought for sure if I birthed a girl she'd be a sporty, Nike wearing, Iverson jersey donning kinda girl. Just like mommy.
Well, in time, Jay has reshaped me as a mother and a woman. These days my tennis shoes (aka sneakers) are Nike but they are far more feminine than my shoes of old. My favorite colors are orange, yellow, red and, dare I say it? PINK. I have, as we speak, pretty pale pink polished toes and I absolutely love it. Pink has become my color of choice when I want to pamper the newfound lady inside.
If you're an anti-pink kind of girl, paint your toes in a shade of pink and I guarantee you'll feel prettier every time you wiggle those ultra-feminine piggies. Try it and be sure to let me know all about it.
Pink is the new blue for me...my favorite color when Babe and I met. Alternately, I discovered red when we met, too. Red is my sexy, vixen color. Red toes, a red bag, a red bra, a red shirt or dress, red is sure to tap into my sexier side.
Somehow Jay has inspired the lady in me to take front stage and leave "blue" girl in the dressing room. I no longer want my shoulder-length locks squeezed into a ponytail. Never that, unless I'm cleaning, working out or framing a carefully made-up face...which is rare. I prefer my hair hanging over my shoulders but fingered toward the back. Somehow it's like wearing pink and red when my hair moves in the wind or peeks over my shoulder when I turn in either direction. So simple, yet I feel so sexy, soft and feminine.
The feminist movement accomplished a lot of things but no matter how powerful or strong a woman you are, every woman should feel sexy, soft and feminine and honey, pink is just the color to do it...it only took me about 25 years to figure it out. Thanks Jay-Baby!!

I despised all things girlie for a long, long time. Even when my Googer Girl was born I refused to purchase anything PINK! Take a look now, I have a pink blog, Lady P is definately a girlie girl and well dare I say it, I have pink nail polish for Goober Girl and when I paint her nails I do mine too! Prettier - maybe not - just different.
Great Post Mrs B! You always leave me thinking!
