When the Living is Easy

It's summer time and although I was dreading it before Jay finished school for break, I'm awfully glad it is here.

The thought of two arguing children in the house ALL day long with me constantly feeding and referreeing them was by no means appealing. It would be so hot outside that we wouldn't be able to get out for a break from each other and these four walls, I would just want to run as fast as my Nikes would take me. That's the vision I had of summer for this year.

But, so far so good! The weather has been pretty warm, but between the pool, backyard and bike riding out front, we've all had a great time. It is enough to wear the kids out for a good night's sleep too...you can't beat that!! Jay is taking a dance class, currently enjoying vacation Bible school at the church, and Nas and I fill in the blanks with walks, his little bike rides and movie-afternoons when it's just too hot to fathom outdoor playtime.

Today I realized how much more I'm enjoying summer, when the living truly is easy...maybe easier is a better word. I made dinner around 5:30 tonight (yes, I did), we ate at 6:15 and the kids are out back playing with a neighbor girl...it's 7:30 now. This would not be the scenario during the school year. It's just so busy, hectic, and of course we're all cooped up inside.

Needless to say, summer time is a good time and I'm going to enjoy every overheated day under the broiling sun with my family and a couple of layers of sunscreen. I hope you're doing the same, those ice cold blizzards are right around the corner!!
