It's Time for Change

I am my father's child, no doubt about it. When I was growing up my dad would rearrange furniture pretty regularly at our house. Even the smallest change seemed to make the world, er, house, appear so much better. Now he's 50 and still rearranging like he works for an HGTV interior design show. I'm no different and sometimes, not nearly as often as dad, I just have to make a change...or ten.

Today I was feeling really tired and thought I was destined for a nap, then it occurred to me to move around a few plants, change the dining room decor, remove the rug in the family room and rearrange the pictures and elephants in the wall insets. Suddenly I had plenty of energy and felt the creativity wash over me. There's just something about change that revitalizes me. Even if it's as small as a different candle and runner on the table.

Time after time I allow myself to shut down because I'm bored, bored of my surroundings, my job as at-home mom, bored of the clothes in my closet. Sometimes all it takes is a little brightening of my surroundings to lift the gray cloud from my mood.
