Very recently I started to think about how sensitive my body and my mind are to different foods and drinks I put into it. Coffee tends to make my mind race and things seem out of focus all while my hands shake like I have nerve damage. Sugar has taken on a quality very similar, I'm guessing, to that of crack. I'm addicted and getting off that crack is really a struggle for me. So knowing this made me consider whether dairy products and meat consumption may be a factor in the way I've been feeling lately as well.
Then I read a magazine article about Alicia Silverstone's book "The Kind Diet" which focuses on healthy eating that is beneficial to our bodies, animals and to our planet. This seemed to stay in one of my mental filing cabinets because I was intrigued a few weeks later when she was on Oprah discussing said book. Finally I decided to pick it up, I had a nice li'l coupon from Borders after all.
Silverstone's book covers a variety of good information, even has recipes! One might think I'm all about animals and/or the planet - I do what I can and expect everyone to do the same, but I'm not into the "Kind Diet" way because of the planet or animals. My draw is far more selfish. She claimed to feel "amazing". That alone piqued my interest big time. So in the interest of feeling amazing, I've adopted a new "diet" (eating lifestyle).
I'm on day three - I said very recently! - and when I wake up I don't NEED coffee. I don't need the "pick-me-up" I required before this 3-day experience! Who knew eating vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains, and the occasional Luna Bar to satisfy the sweet tooth could end the dependence on coffee for me? Convince me no more, I'm in for the long haul even if that means I dabble in vegan ways and live on a vegetarian diet, I'm okay with giving up meat. I was never a big fan of the stuff anyway - that or milk! So maybe that made it easier for me to cross over to the 'not-so-wild' side.
Stay tuned for recipes I try along the way and just how this whole thing goes down! It is sure to be a very interesting ride.

My goodness, I'm gone for a weekend and you've made all sorts of life changes. You're constantly making me think about something new! I don't think I could ever give up my dairy and lets face it, I just don't LIKE healthy food. How horrible! Can't wait to hear more good stuff. Glad to hear you're feeling good.
