Ah, the holidays. People drive faster and angrier, parents push past each other to grab that Transformer Bumblebee toy for their favorite little boy, and kids get a bit more anxious as we close in on the big day. Isn't such a merry time?
Well I'm thrilled about it because it is December 20th and I am DONE. That's right, DONE. I just got back from Super Target, it was crawling with shoppers hoping to avoid the weekend rush, and I finished off the gift buying for Babe and Nas picked a gift for his Sissy. Neither of the kids had a mile-long list, okay, Nas did...but I had a focus for what Santa was permitted to bring: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and any "real" Transformer we could find. Target emailed me this week letting me know they had Megatron in and Babe scurried on over there the next morning to grab the
L-A-S-T one! WooHoo!!! I'm a happy girl.
Jay only wanted a few things, makeup for dress-up and doll stuff for her favorite doll, Denise. We grabbed all of that plus a cool, on-sale this week only Barbie set of furniture. Ah, how cool is that? She'll be pleased come Tuesday morning. Of course daddy will find some random "must-haves" and run out to buy them, but I've got $10 left and I'm keeping that tucked safely away for safe keeping. We didn't spend a ton of money, but we spent enough and kids need to see that it's not about them but still have fun on Christmas morning. So we're set!
Tomorrow is Jay's last day of school until the new year, so we're going to her classroom "Winter Party" for our last holiday outing. It'll be fun as long as my Grinch of a son behaves. He knows Christmas is close and he's just not been sleeping well enough to get him through the day with sanity in tow. I take a deep breath and brace myself for the next few days of sheer anxiety, the kids', and enjoy the fact that I accomplished my goal of gettin' it done pre-"the weekend before Christmas". This time last year I had nothin', nada, zilch. Then we got 3 feet of snow, today, to the day, last year. Did I mention I'm a happy girl?
Ahhhh, don't you just love the holidays??
